Waiting on Wednesday is a super meme started by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It's one of my favorite blog activities. There's such a sense of community among book bloggers. This gives us a great opportunity to learn about new books coming down the pike, many we may not be aware of otherwise.
This week, I'm really looking forward to digging into Tyger Tyger by Kersten Hamilton. I had a meeting with an editor from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. She gave me their catalogue of upcoming books. That was where I first encountered Tyger Tyger. The big, colorful display in the catalogue caught my eye right away. Then several weeks later, I received an email from the author. After a few exchanges, she had her publicist send me an ARC of Tyger Tyger.
I'm not sure if it's a paranormal or an urban fantasy, but it sounds good! Check out the blurb on the back of the book...
Teagan Wylltson's best friend, Abby, dreams that horrifying creatures--goblins, shape-shifters, and beings of unearthly beauty but terrible cruelty--are hunting Teagan. Abby is always coming up with crazy stuff, though, so Teagan isn't worried. Her life isn't in danger. In fact, it's perfect. She's on track for a college scholarship. She has a great job. She's focused on school, work, and her future. No boys, no heartaches, no problems.
Until Finn Mac Cumhaill arrives. Finn's a bit on the unearthly beautiful side himself. He has a killer accent and a knee-weakening smile. And either he's crazy or he's been haunting Abby's dreams, because he's talking about goblins, too . . . and about being The Mac Cumhaill, born to fight all goblin-kind. Finn knows a thing or two about fighting. Which is a very good thing, because this time, Abby's right. The goblins are coming.
How different is this eh? No vampires, werewolves, angels or fairies. The author scores points in my book just for coming up with a new supernatural entity! What do you think? Have you read any stories about goblins? This is the first book in what I believe is a trilogy. I can't wait to read it.

I haven't followed the "fantasy" or "paranormal" genre, but I know that anything that has a unique twist would get my vote.
