This is an unusual giveaway; at least its the most unique that I've done. I received an ARC of Sing You Home, Jodi Picoult's latest novel, releasing in March. It comes with a CD included! These are original songs created for the novel. The lyrics are by Jodi Picoult and the songs are sung by Ellen Wilbur. I believe the book blurb reveals the key to the delightful musical extra...
Every life has a soundtrack. All you have to do is listen.
Music has set the tone for most of Zoe Baxter's life. There's the melody that reminds her of the summer she spent rubbing baby oil on her stomach in pursuit of the perfect tan. A dance beat that makes her think of using a fake ID to slip into a nightclub. A dirge that marked the years she spent trying to get pregnant.
For better or for worse, music is the language of memory. It is also the language of love.
In the aftermath of a series of personal tragedies, Zoe throws herself into her career as a music therapist. When an unexpected friendship slowly blossoms into love, she makes plans for a new life, but to her shock and inevitable rage, some people - even those she loves and trusts most - don't want that to happen.
Sing You Home is about identity, love, marriage, and parenthood. It's about people wanting to do the right thing for the greater good, even as they work to fulfill their own personal desires and dreams. And it's about what happens when the outside world brutally calls into question the very thing closest to our hearts: family.

Toodles!
I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult. I have read almost all of her novels. My favorite continues to be Plain Truth. I enjoyed the layers of that novel and the different sides to the Amish life. I would love a chance to wine!
ReplyDeleteI do not know of any other books that include a CD.

My favorite is My Sister's Keeper. It is so full of emotion and has one of the best premises I know of.
ReplyDeleteAnother book I read called Nocturne has a CD with it of Chopin's music because it's about Chopin.

I adore Jodi Picoult, and it was love at first read? from when I read My Sister's Keeper, it's just so poignant, so wonderful and so controversial at how Picoult tackles a lot of issues that are taboo - as most of her novels do.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I've had the book Timeless, which ties in with a CD sung by the author! It's pretty good too (:

I'd love to be entered. I haven't read any books with a CD

I have not read a Jodi Picoult book yet, but have had her books recommended to me recently. I would love to win a copy of this one. Please enter me. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe only book I can think of that I remember coming with a CD was a book of fairy tales starring the Disney Princesses. Other than that, the only books I know of that come with a CD, are children's books that have the audiobook cd and the book for the child to follow along in!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is My Sister's Keeper. On all of Jodi's books, I love how she takes us through different characters' perspectives. I also love the fact that each topic is very controversial and well researched. But with My Sister's Keeper, I just saw the ending coming - it totally shocked, even though in retrospect, it made a perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteI have never read a book with a CD and am a little skeptical as I like to imagine what the supporting elements such as mood, music, and smell in the air is like for each book. But I do think it is an exciting new idea.

I don't know of any other book that's included a cd, but I think it's a wonderful idea. After all, how often does a soundtrack either contribute to a movie or MAKE the movie?? Why not for a book, too? I think Jodi Picoult may have just started something...at least, I hope so. Even if other authors don't write their own lyrics (like you said, What CAN'T Picoult do), having a cd of music relating to or inspired by a book would be pretty cool, too.
ReplyDeleteAs far as my favorite Picoult book (I think I've read them all except MAYBE 2 or 3), I'm going to have to say My Sister's Keeper. I cried several times while reading it and the ending was SO shocking to me, I threw the book across the room and had to retrieve it to actually finish it. I LOVE a book that makes me FEEL even if that feeling isn't necessarily a pleasant one. My Sister's Keeper is a book that will stay with me for a very long time.

Jodi Picoult is my favorite author! I would say my favorite Jodi Picoult book was The Pact or My sisters Keeper. The Jodi picoult books seem to have a part that shocks you and I love that about her. She seems to research her topics so well before writing. The pact was my favorite because while tragic, it was romantic and shocking.

The only Jody Picoult novel I've had a chance to read is 'The Tenth Circle'. I loved the depth in which she examined family dynamics and growing up in a place where you didn't belong.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of a book with a CD added to it. I do think it's a great idea. So often authors have a particuliar song set list in mind while writing a book. Would definitely help put readers into the author's mind.
I'd love a chance to win this book. Thanks for the opportunity. (Hugs)Indigo

This is a fabulous giveaway, June!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big Jodi Piccoult fan (I think I've read almost all of her books now!) and it's so hard to choose a favorite. But... I will always love THE PACT because it was my first of Jodi's books. It has many YA elements, and so many twists that kept me turning pages well into the night. Plus, the finality of Chris and Emily's decision really spoke to me. Loved it.
Oh, boy! Totally forgot my email address. Sorry!

My Sister's Keeper is probably my favorite. It shows what a mother will do for her children. And a sibling's relationship. Thanks.

Great giveaway! I love Jodi Picoult! My Sister's Keeper was amazing and I just recently acquired a copy of House Rules. Can't wait to start it!
ReplyDeletekatie_tp@yahoo.com
I love Jodi's books - my favourite was Nineteen Minutes because the ending took me totally by surprise. The only other book I've received with a CD was a biography of Rich Mullins who died in 1997 - they included a DVD of some of his music. Very nice touch.

My favorite Picoult novel is Second Glace. A novel that centers around Native Americans, eugenics, a cold case murder mystery and a doomed love affair, is a sure win with me.

My favorite Picoult novel is My Sister's Keeper. It is just one that sticks with me and I keep returning to it.
ReplyDeleteI do not know of any other books that come with CDs, aside form biographies of famous composers.

I love all the Picoult books I have read, but my fav has to be Nineteen Minutes. For some reason that one really go to me. I don't remember ever getting a book with a CD. Not a grown up one anyone. My kids books often come with CDs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.

I am a huge Jodi Picoult fan! I think my favorites were Plain Truth and Nineteen Minutes. I was simply riveted and they had some unexpected endings.

I've only read My Sister's Keeper, so I guess that has to be my favorite of hers. I really did love that book even though other people said they hated the ending. I thought it was an amazing book.
ReplyDeleteThis book was fantastic. The characters really come alive in Picoult's narrative about love, life, and family. Each character has a distinct voice and a story to tell. I highly recommend this book!
