I saw many mixed couples that consisted of white men and black women--just the opposite! I did see white women with black men as well, but the white guy, black girl combination really stood out. This combo is not nearly as common in the US. The large number of interracial couples I saw in the relatively short time I visited, leads me to believe that this is fairly common place in London. I wish I could have taken pictures to show you guys, but the people probably would have though I was crazy!

Of course, this is in London and folks in cities tend to be more liberal and open minded, but it was still more prevalent than anything I've seen in any US city I've visited. I was at Buckingham Palace and wandered to a park across the street. The entrance to this park is the photo above (awesome, isn't it?) While there, I saw this couple. She's Asian and he's black. I just couldn't resist taking their picture. They were good sports about it and were so caught up with each other, they could have cared less.

DeleteYou should go to Austin Texas or better yet Houston Texas and check out all the mix race couples both married and not! Here in the towns surrounding me it is mostly Black Men with White Women, Hispanic Men with White Women and Asian or Indian Men with White Women. Couple of points can be made by these observations and one of them is that apparently there are not as many White Males as other races!
ReplyDeleteNow if you go to South Texas it is a mixture of Hispanic females with all the other races because apparently Spanish people in Texas have a lot of female children, by the way that is pretty across the board true because knew a lot of them when growing up and mostly all my classmates families had more girls than boys. The White or Caucasian families on the other hand ran toward male offspring, maybe it was the water!!!!

This post caught my eye because my husband and I are part of the 6 percent of interracial married couple of the US--that is the statistic I have seen most frequently. We happen to live in South Carolina. I am continually surprised that we are so much in the minority, and wish it were not the case. I love the photo of the very-much-in-love couple! I am in favor of love all around...
ReplyDeleteI live in Bermuda and feel there is a good mix, cross over of cultures not only race. Black, white, portuguese, italian, jamaican etc. I can't think if majority is white female to black male etc, it is so mixed here.

We lived in Germany for 5 years and noticed there was a much larger population of interracial couples there. Also many same sex couples walking around holding hands. Now we live in Louisiana and don’t see it nearly as much. Hubs and I are an interracial couple so we tend to notice that sort of thing. I am a huge fan of the acceptance Europeans show you no matter who you choose to fall in love with :)

ReplyDeleteEuropean white males are more open to dating black women than USA white males. Less historical guilt associations, I suppose. At least that is what I have experienced as a black female.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Like I said, the white men--black female may be more of an urban, London phenomenon, but it certainly is in a much higher proportion than you'll find in any American city.

ReplyDeleteIn the Philippines there are millions of darker skin people in fact the native are black. They put these shows like Luna Blanca to make filipinos dread the idea of getting darker this way they can sell more adds space for skin whitening products. In Nita Negrita, they said the girl was darker because her mother mating with an african American they painted the baby and later the girl with black paint. ReplyDeleteI can confirm Anon post on 24th is correct, I live in UK and travel around the country very often. The point he made about working class whites with blacks is very real. It is very rare to find a middle class girl with a black guy. And another reason why interacial dating is so common here is simply a numbers game. I was the 'only' black guy in my grade at school in the 90's so white girls were like what I grew up with, although i prefer black now. But blacks here are only 1 mil, vs 60 mil of white with about 2% of that being of other races (indian, chinese etc). Black guys here are just outnumbered by white girls and, although it sounds harsh to say, alot of black girls are Single mothers so black guys in there teens, will tend to steer away and fortunate or unfortunate the selection of white girls is just overwhelming. You will find this more prevalent in the bigger cities such as London, Birmingham and Manchester.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anonymous-Aug31 for your thoughts. Actually, I didn't see many black guys with white girls which is very common in the US. What I did see a great deal of, was white guys with black girls. That combo isn't as common in the US, though it is a trend that's growing here more.

DeleteMothers' wow. I'm university educated, philanthropic and well rounded and have no children. My sister is also well educated with no children. My girlfriends have no children, are all well educated, travel, are independent, gainfully employed etc. Maybe you just need to move in better circles?

DeleteI disagree with the poster above. I have lived all over England and Wales, from the north to the south and I've noticed a lot of mixed race couples. I am a black female who dates mostly white guys and I've nevEr had a shortage of admirers. I don't have a single friend who isn't in or hasnt been in a mixed relationship. My friends are from all over the Ethnic spectrum and open to dating all races.
ReplyDeleteI agree that British men are more open to dating outside thecartage than American men - speaking as an ameican woman living in the Uk for 12years. There isn't much segragation here for the most part - particularly amongst Young people. Everybody mixes with everyone and I see a lot of diverse groups of friends. . It's said that by 2020, mixed race people will be largest race in the UK due to the
number of children being born to mixed couples.
We are by no means fully evolved; as we have our own race issues and history but I think in terms of dating and relationships, we are certainly ahead of the USA. I know plenty of black women here Who are dating or married to Asian, white, Thai, Chinese and mixed men. It's very different to America here.
