In My Mailbox...

Original Cover
New Cover
I had some interesting finds in my mailbox this week. I requested an ARC of Wolfsbane, the second book in the Nightshade trilogy. It released in August and I never received it. Imagine my surprise when I found it in my mailbox this week! I'm especially happy because the publisher sent the one with the original cover. I am quite fond of the original covers of this series. It's been changed, now and I just don't find the new covers as intriguing. The story is awesome and I can't wait to read book two!

I was also surprised to get Hunted, the new book by Cheryl Rainsfield. I interviewed her last year (see 3/31/10 post) when her contemporary YA, SCARS released. It's inspired by her own struggles with sexual abuse and became an award-winning novel. I can't wait to see how she's going to handle the paranormal in this one!

Carry the One is getting some interesting buzz. A young girl is killed and it affects the lives of a number of people for years to come.

And finally, I received my own copies of The Woman in Black and The Killer of Little Shepherds. I just concluded my biggest giveaway this past week and had 10 winners, for these two books. The Woman in Black will be a movie starring Daniel Radcliffe. It releases February 2012 and I'm telling you, it looks seriously scary! Again, I thank Random House for their generosity.

That's it for me. What good books did you get or read this past week?

My Selection for Waiting on Wednesday: WOLFSBANE by Andrea Cremer

This great meme was started by Jill at Breaking the Spine and it's one I look forward to. It gives us a chance to learn about what are the hot books folks are dying to read. I may be a bit a head of myself this week with my choice because it's not going to be released until the Summer of 2011, but I can't help it. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

For those of you that haven't been traipsing through the YA universe, WOLFSBANE is the sequel to NIGHTSHADE that was just released in October. I raced through that book and was absolutely delighted with it. If you're not familiar, I'll give you the quick version: it's about an girl named Calla who's a werewolf. She finds this hot human boy named Shay in the forest and against her better instincts, saves his life. But there's a problem you see. Calla is engaged to Ren, a fellow teen werewolf and high school classmate. Their marriage is right around the corner, but Calla can't shake her feelings for Shay. And Shay seems to have some secrets of his own. There's a lot more, but like I said, this is the short version, plus I don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't read it.

I can't wait to read the continuation of this story in WOLFSBANE! Darn; to have to wait eight months...ugh! I mean, the first book just came out, so I couldn't find much of a description for WOLFSBANE. The only thing I saw was on goodreads and it was one, little line:

Betrayal, loss, pain and fear. How many trials can love endure and still survive?

Alrighty then, sounds like a whole lotta drama to me! I couldn't find much in the way of description, but I managed to track down the first chapter and it sounds awesome. Check it out here!...If you dare...Enjoy.

WOLFSBANE releases July 12, 2011.

Toodles!

Without further ado, the winner of the awesome (and may I add, sexy) Nightshade is...

Release Day! Book Review and Giveaway: NIGHTSHADE by Andrea Cremer

Title: Nightshade

Publisher: Philomel/Penguin
Format: ARC
ISBN: 978-0-399-25482-6
Price: $17.99 Pages: 452

Young adult paranormal novels have been awash in all things vampire, werewolves and angels to name a few of the more prolific creatures. Nightshade by Andrea Cremer doesn’t stray from a popular choice—werewolves, but she certainly puts a fresh and intriguing spin on it.
The premise of Nightshade is quite simple. Seventeen-year-old Calla Tor is a werewolf—when she’s not behaving like a normal student at the Mountain School.  The time for her upcoming nuptials is fast approaching. She’ll be pairing up and marrying Ren Laroche, a fellow student and werewolf. Calla and Ren are alpha wolves. The marriage solidifying their union will serve as the catalyst for uniting their respective wolf packs, the Nightshades and the Banes.  Calla and Ren will then rule the newly created pack and fight side by side as one. This has always been the plan since they were small children. It has always been their destiny, but as often happens, plans change—no matter how much we may wish otherwise.
Calla goes against all the rules of her kind, of the masters that control them and saves the life of a human boy who has strayed into the wrong part of the forest. He’s no ordinary boy and Calla will soon find out that there is much more to Shay Doran than the beautiful visage that captures her imagination as she risks everything to save him from a sure and certain death.
