In 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is carefully rationed, and New York City is rife with crime and poverty. And yet, for Anya Balanchine, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the city's most notorious (and dead) crime boss, life is fairly routine. It consists of going to school, taking care of her siblings and her dying grandmother, trying to avoid falling in love with the new assistant D.A.'s son, and avoiding her loser ex-boyfriend. That is until her ex is accidently poisoned by the chocolate her family manufactures and the police think she's to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight--at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafia family.

Toodles!
Love Gabrielle Zevin's work. I've only read Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac, but it was really good.
ReplyDeleteNachos is my answer. I couldn't live without eating them. My taste buds would rebel. I almost said the color purple, but I could get by if I was forced to wear something less bright if I had to. I'm exhaling with relief that I don't. Thanks for this giveaway!

Hahaha, lovely giveaway and a great question! If I am to name something I love so much it should be declared illegal I would have to go with books:) I buy way too many books and my husband already declared me a book hoarder :) He also blamed the Canada Post strike on me getting way too many books every week ;D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for hosting this giveaway. I'm a coffee and chocolate addict, so I would love to read this book and discover a world where these two are banned! Sure sounds amazing!

I've heard some great things about this book! Looking forward to the mafia angle.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love playing my guitar...so I'd have to declare guitars illegal. Which would majorly suck :(

I'm going to have to go with soda or anything with caffiene really. I get horrible headaches if I go a day without caffeine. (Yeah, I know it's bad.)

Bottle Caps candies, yum! I eat way, way too many of these when I shouldn't be having any at all. I just can't help myself, they are just too delicious. I am definitely an addict :)

I am a huge fan of Zevin. I read Elsewhere and Teenage Amnesiac; loved them both! :) Thanks for the awesome giveaway.
ReplyDeleteAs for answering the question... ohh, this is a toughie. Um... I think I'd have to make books illegal. I just love books so much. Making it illegal would absolutely kill me. :(

Something I love that much would be family - I would die without them, (I include close friends as family too). After them, my Kindle and my books. I freak out anytime something even gives off the appearance that it will cause harm to my Kindle.
ReplyDeleteTwizzlers. My secret addiction. Oops. Guess not anymore. Oh well. :) Fun giveaway. I am dying to read this book!
