I was fortunate to receive some cool books over the last couple of weeks. I was really surprised to get a nice sized package from EgmontUSA. It included Savage Grace by Bree Despain, the last book in the Dark Divine series. I'm looking forward to finishing this trilogy. The second book left off at a big cliffhanger and I can't wait to see how it all ends.

I read the e-galley of Wither and loved it. I'm very happy to have a physical copy of Fever, book two in the series. I'm almost finished reading it and...what can I say, it's a great read: somber, dark and intriguing. I've just peeked at the pages of Cinder. It looks good and I'm fascinated by the cover.

I read The Kneebone Boy by Ellen Potter a couple of years ago, and if you haven't read it, you need to! It was cover love that drew me in. She was so sweet and kind to send me a signed copy of the hardcover edition. I'm happy to receive an Arc of her next book The Humming Room. I'm not a usual reader of middle grade novels, but if Ellen has written it, I'm in! When I read Insatiable, it was the first book I'd ever read by Meg Cabot. I thought it was YA, but it's an adult book. She jumped on the vampire wagon and did a good job of it, I'd say. Overbite is the sequel and I was stoked to get it. It wasn't clear that there was going to be a follow up book, but I'm sure glad there is.

I went to a writer's conference a couple of weeks ago, and Cassandra Clare was one of the speakers. She talked about what else? The ubiquitous love triangle in YA and how to do it right. She's pretty quirky and a little on the kinky side...lol...I've never read her books, but they've been on my TBR list, so I figured this was as good a time as any to pick them up. I spent money on these and purchased the first trilogy she wrote to get me started.

Book Two of the Chemical Garden Trilogy



Ahh...time for one of my favorite posts. Waiting on Wednedsay was started by the fabulous Jill over at Breaking the Spine. It's an excellent way to learn about the new books that folks are excited about and looking forward to. This week, I've got my eyes set on Fever, the second book in the Chemical Gardens trilogy. If you haven't read Wither yet, you should check it out. The writing is beautiful and lyrical, the story somber, somewhat dark and thought-provoking. Let's see where Wither ends and Fever takes off...

From the moment of their escape, Rhine and Gabriel are constantly in danger. First, the police are after them for stealing their escape boat; then, they run straight into the eerie den of Madame, an old woman who collects and sells girls to the highest bidders. Worst of all, Rhine's father-in-law Vaughn seems able to find her wherever she goes.

                                                                                                                                                     

She manages to make the long journey home only to find it abandoned, her twin brother Rowan nowhere to be found. And when she discovers several of their treasured possessions are also gone, she realizes that he won't be back. Rhine's determination to find her brother remains steadfast, until she finds herself crippled by illness. . . and then, once again, at her father-in-law's mercy. Fearing for Gabriel's safety, she reluctantly leaves him behind and, unbelievably, returns to the one place she never wanted to see again.



Book One

The second book in the Chemical Garden Trilogy reveals a world outside the mansion as captivating and bleak as the one Rhine left behind--and sets the stage for an explosive conclusion.

What do you think of the cover? It seems to have provoked some strong feelings across the blogosphere. It's the same model. I am partial to the first one, Wither, but I do like the new one as well. Judging by the girl's rather wasted appearance, it looks like Rhine went through hell in this sequel...lol...I'm looking forward to finding out. What say you, fellow booklover?
