My Selection for Waiting on Wednesday: Abandon by Meg Cabot

Howdy ya'll! (I'm in a western/southern mood today even though I'm in the northeast right now--go figure!). It's time to see what's good to read this week. Waiting on Wednesday is the very lovely meme started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

That prolific author, Meg Cabot is at it again. Abandon is the first book of a new trilogy. It's a reimagined tale of the Greek goddess Persephone. Let's look at a description from the author's site...

She knows what it's like to die. Now Death wants her back.

Seventeen-year-old Pierce knows what happens to us when we die.
That's how she met John Hayden, the mysterious stranger who's made returning to normal life—or at least life as Pierce knew it before the accident—next to impossible.
Though she thought she escaped him—starting a new school in a whole new place—it turns out she was wrong. He finds her.
What does John want from her? Pierce thinks she knows... just like she knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven. But she can't stay away from him, either, especially since he's always there when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.
But if she lets herself fall any further, she might find herself back in the place she fears the most.
And when Pierce discovers the shocking truth, that’s exactly where John sweeps her:

The Underworld.

I've only read one Meg Cabot book: Insatiable and that was her contribution to the vampire hysteria. Now with Abandon, she seems to be taking another break from writing contemporary YA, which she's known for and jumping into the paranormal pool. If Insatiable is any indication, she's good at it, so I say "dive right in, Ms. Cabot!" I'm certainly looking forward to it.

What about you? Are you a Meg Cabot fan?

  1. Oooo! Okay, that sounds awesome. Nice pick!

  2. I haven't read anything by Meg Cabot yet but between the sounds of Insatiable (Vamps) and now something about Greek Goddess's in Abandon that has gotten my attention and added it to my list can't wait to read either one of these.

    Here's My WOW

  4. Oh, Meg Cabot's books are wonderful! I've read a few and they're really good. This is the first time I've read the summary for Abandon, and I like it! Nice pick!

  5. YAY, another book of Meg Cabot. We have the translation book of hers. I hope the local publisher will buy this one also. :)

  6. Even if this didn't sound great I would read it simply because it is Meg Cabot. Great pick!

  7. I've read her romances as Patricia Cabot, but only a handful of stuff w/a Meg Cabot.

This book is going on my TBB though :)

    Here's my WOW pick.

    Wit and Sin

  8. I have heard about this, but this is the first time I've actually read the blurb - its now definitely another one for my wish list!

  10. I've heard so much about this author, but I've never read anything of hers. Sounds like I need to get on board with this one, since it's the start of a new series. Great pick!

  11. June not only do I love the name, the cover the blurb but have it already bookmarked and am very anxious to once again dive in to Meg Cabot's imagination... Since reading Insatiable did some research and found Abandon's release info and it has been on my wish list ever since! See we do like the same books occasionally, of course this week my book has a half clothed male again but cannot help it as I like the author's work! LOL

    My WoW

    jackie >_<

  12. I must confess, I've never actually read a Meg Cabot. Which is amazing since her books take up two whole shelves at our library. I've checked a few out, but never actually got around to reading them. It's weird for me to think of Meg Cabot writing anything outside of the Princess Diaries genre. This one sounds interesting though. Maybe it will be my first.

  13. I've read some of Meg Cabot's work and I love it, so I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for this one...thanks for a great pick!

  14. Oooh yes, I can't wait for this one! I really like that myth (I love the bad boy, and you don't get a better bad boy than the god of the underworld!) Plus, look at that cover!

  15. Oooh! I like the cover and the sound of the story!!Super pick! I've read some of teen books, i didn't enjoy them much, but the mediator series sounded interesting!

    here is my WOW..

  16. I'm looking forward to seeing how Meg will handle paranormal YA since I love her other books (except Princess Diaries). I haven't read Insatiable so it's nice to hear that Meg is good at that too although I'm not surprised.

  17. Great choice! I love Med and I can't wait to read it!

  18. I looove Megg Cabot! Can't wait for this one to come out!!!
